HiWe would like to use the ADF4159 as our SFCW (Stepped Frequency Continous Wave) source in our radar application. For now, we've purchased the EV-ADF4159EB1Z to check that the concept is ok, i.e. that it can be used as our radar source. In essense, am wondering if the "ADF4158/9/69 PLL Software" described in the UG-383 toghether with the EV-ADF4159EB1Z is able to produce a SFCW (in detail we would like to produce 10 CW between 12-12.4GHz i.e. with 40MHz step)?
Also, note that there will be a delay for each frequency step due to the time taken for the SPI writes for the new frequency
In principle yes this should work with some modifications to the software.
ADF4159 software source code can be found here:
The ADF4360 source code has an extra control tab called sweep/hop. You can perhaps take this code for these controls as a starting point and modify them for the ADF4159 software to implement your SFCW. (note that the registers will be different between the ADF4360 and ADF4159).
Though at that point it would probably be better to develop your own software solution/interface to communicate with the eval board. You could jumper over to the SPI lines from your interface board to eval board.
