EVAL-HMC1023LP5 and HMC6356 USB Interface

Hi Chris,

Jumpers on DLP2232H (HMC6356) module should be set as JP1 short, JP2 and JP3.

There may or may not be a solder bridge on the underside of the interface board's header. If there is a solder bridge then there is an important case with the bottom solder on pins of eval board and jumper states which must be definitely avoided. If pin2 and pin3 of JP2 are shorted while the bottom solder is there, DLP2232H breaks. This configuration directs 5V to the GPIO supply of DLP2232H module which exceeds its absolute maximum rating of 3.3V.

Could your interface have been damaged in this way?

Could I please get some clarity. You state "JP2 and JP3" what open or closed...you are missing a word here.

JP1 short and JP2/JP3 open. What software are you running with the interface board?

The target circuit card is a duplicate of the EVAL-HMC1023LP5 with a couple additional parts added.

I managed to dig up an old schematic of an USB interface card and now see that the buffers are supplied by the IO_Supply pin coming from the EVAL-HMC1023LP5. That of course was not clear. There also seems to be a RST pin 11 on the USB interface which is not used on EVAL-HMC1023LP5. Also not really not clear if the new drivers for the DLP-2232H have been tested with the software and a EVAL-HMC1023LP5. There a number of unknowns here.

Sorry for the delay, I was waiting on an HMC1023 arriving to test this. I am addressing this over email with you, but I would also like to clarify here that the EKIT01-HMC1031, in terms of hardware, should work with either DLP2232H or DLP2232M versions of the HMC6356. Note that this was tested with the jumpers set on the DLP2232H as I mentioned previously.

I am actually not familiar with the LPF software so it is possible that up-to-date drivers are missing that another piece of HMC software I have installed does.

When I tested this I also had this HMC software installed on my PC:

Or if you can source an older HMC6356 with the DLP-2232M this would clarify if the issue is with drivers or a faulty/damaged interface board.

if this does not work then I think there could be an issue with your HMC1023 board layout.

Solved! The communication is now working. I had to add a 10pF cap in parallel with R55 of the "HMC1023 Baseband Filter Eval" schematic.

BTW the USB drivers for the DLP-2232H need to be downloaded and installed from the DLP website. The DLP-2232M drivers will not work with the HMC1023 SW.
