Hi guys, my first post here. I have AD8318 RF logarithmic detector module. inside datasheet it says output is DC from 0.2 volts to around 2.1 volts so it must be so easy to measuring output and understand RF power level but when I measuring output voltage it's very constant above 2 or 3 volts and changes are very little a few millivolts. I connect it to the arduino's analog input for detecting voltage level but as I said before voltage is more DC like and it doesn't change, after filtering output DC voltage it can detect AC pulses but still not accurate and noisy.
so what I understand wrong about this IC?
It is not easy to see on the figure, but are pins 6 and 7 connected together?
I don't think.
See the typical application circuit on the page 12 in the datasheet of AD8313. And compare it with your EVB. E.g. the pins 6 and 7 are connected together there.
I see. this product is proven and used by many others. So still I have no idea about what's a problem.
If I understand it correctly, you want to detect pulses of RF energy. Right? Something like this?
Time and amplitude is not relevant on the figure. What is the RF frequency and whet is duration od single pulse?
I think, I said before my friend. Measuring output of AD8318. Measuring any kind of RF frequency that can detectable with This IC from common sources like WIFI, Bluetooth, etc.
It must work, the RF pulses during the burst are wide enough. The detectable power is -55dBm, I propose you to connect RF generator at the input of detector module and check basic functionality with such simple setup and known RF level (from RF generator).
