HMC3587 output load requirements?

Hi,

A quick simple question, can the HMC3587 amplifier chip be run into an open circuit at room temperature when operated at +5v and normal operating currents? From a dissipation point of view this seems OK  but wonder if there are other considerations? I'm just wondering if I need to protect a module where someone could inadvertently forget to connect up an external load

Many thanks

  • Hi Keith, this part has not been load pull tested so we cannot definitively say that it will survive. Worst case would be where the output power would be at saturation (15 to 17 dBm). That is not a huge amount of power reflecting back into the output.  So my guess is that it would be ok but unfortunately, I can't say that definitively.
