I am looking for a voltage controlled Oscillator (VCO) in the frequency range 0.5 GHz - 4.5 GHz and to be operated (controlled) using a PWM from an MCU. Any suggestions?

I have seen the post "ADF4351" which is slightly different from a conventional VCO.

    Hi,

Unfortunately we don't have any stand alone, varactor tuned oscillators that specifically cover that range. A good solution that minimizes complexity would be the HMC586 (4.0 GHz to 8.0 GHz ) VCO followed by the HMC862A (Div 1/2/4/8) frequency divider.

As you noted, you could also use any number of integrated VCO / PLL products (ADF4351, LTC6946, ADF5355, ADF5356, ADF5610 and many more) but this adds a lot of complexity.
