about HMC788ALP2E

Hello,

For HMC788A, it needs a 10nF capacitor at RF input port and RF output port.

And in datasheet, it shows these capacitors (C1 & C2) are 0502 size package (Table 5 at page 10).

Due to general package is 0402, so are these two capacitors special capacitor?? 

Could you share this capacitor's part number (using for evaluation board)??

  • The capacitors chosen depends on your design frequency, for 10GHz, I would have used 2 or 3pF ATC capacitors, while for 10MHz, those 10nF capacitors would be a good idea.  Be aware that all capacitors have a series resonance, and above this they are useless. This is a thing you should test with a sweept setup, either a VNA, or a SNA setup.  Calculate the capacitors to have a couple ohms of reactance, and do some measurements, if you are using regular ceramic caps. Some of the capacitors in the market today have horrible Q and high loss. 

    I'm guessing, without belonging to ADI, that the caps are supposed to be 0402 size.
