IQ modulator and demodulator

Hi there,

We are looking for a pair of IQ modulator and de-modulator, which can be used as a loop back potential.

Looking at one of old threads below, it covers some of our questions.

We'd like to use evm  boards, of IQ demod adrf6820 or adrf6821 and IQ mod adrf6720 or adrf6720-27, together with DAQ2.

Our aim is to generate 500Mhz bandwidth RF signal while carrier frequency is not so important for now.

our question is that, is it possible to build a loop back mode use these IQ mod and demod evm boards?

    Hello,

    Yes, you can build a loop back system with those Mods and De-Mods. Those Mods and Demod themselves allow the wider 1dB baseband bandwidth than 500MHz. However, need to consider other roll-off over Frequency like RF output vs.Frequency(Figure 4 on ADRF6720) when you set carrier frequency.  Please refer to datasheet and user-guide to build with evm boards.

    Many thanks for you reply and bringing roll off over frequency for adrd6720 to my attenation. 

    Over the holiday period, I also spotted a passive mixer, HMC8193, which is very interesting. Compared with above mods and de-mods, this IQ mixer only has all singled ended ports and becomes more attractive.

    It seems that using a pair of HMC8193, a RF loop back mode can be built, right?

    Say, here is my RF loop using mixer,  DAC-->MIXER(up) -->MIXER(down)-->ADC,

    1/  do I need a high/low pass filter in-between?

    2/ do I need low pass filter between DAC and MIXER up,?

    3/ do I need low pass filter between MIXER down and ADC?

    4/ Between mixer solution and mod/de-mod solution, which one is better?
