Inquiry Regarding LTPA Impedance Data Conversion to S-Parameter

Thread Summary

The user inquired about converting LTpowerAnalyzer impedance analysis data to S-parameter format for Power Distribution Network and Power Integrity simulations. The final answer explains that LTpowerAnalyzer only provides Z22 (output impedance) data, and converting to S-parameters requires a full Z-parameter set. No direct S-parameter measurement or export capability is available in LTpowerAnalyzer. The user can refer to a literature source for Z-to-S parameter conversion methods.

Hi Team,

I have a question regarding the LTpowerAnalyzer impedance analysis feature.

Is there any method to convert the impedance analysis data from LTPA into an S-parameter format?

We would like to perform Power Distribution Network and Power Integrity simulations based on S-parameter data.

Although Scopy does not appear to support this functionality, I believe the frequency-impedance data from LTPA could potentially be used to derive S-parameters.

  • Ideally, it would be very helpful if the data could be exported directly as a Touchstone (.s1p) file.

The converted S-parameter data would be used during post-layout (post-simulation) analysis, after PCB artwork completion or in progress, for SoC-level PI evaluation.

While there is no immediate demand, we anticipate this capability will become essential in upcoming customer projects.

Therefore, if it’s possible to extract S-parameter data of a Power IC using an EVM and LTPA, it would be extremely beneficial for customer PI analysis and design validation.

Best regards,
Alexander
