Measuring 6 cells of a battery pack with CN0510 by multiplexing

Thread Summary

The user is experiencing poor EIS measurement results when using force cables on the main terminals of a 6-series battery pack with the AD5941. The final answer suggests that the AC current excitation across a larger impedance in the main terminal configuration can cause deviation from Ohm's law due to non-linearity. The user should adjust the DC bias for each cell and ensure the ADC input range is within +900mV to -900mV. The accompanying answers recommend checking the gain of the input potential and adjusting the ADC PGA gain and RTIA values.

Hello, I have an 6 series battery pack. I want to perform EIS test on each cell by multiplexing the AD5941. So for sense cables AC coupler - Buffer - Multiplexer looks like the correct way. I am confused about the force cables, should I mux those also? or may I do the excitation by the main terminals of the battery pack?

When I tried the force cables on the mains and switching the sense cables of cells on CN0510 my measurement results gets worse. Is there a way to make this configuration work. I use sensorpal for the measurements right now but when i develop the card i will use custom software.

  • Hi,

Excitation can be given at the main terminals alone.

The AC potential across each battery is measured by ADC of AD5941.

If this potential is very small or very big (outside allowed voltage input range of ADC), results will be erratic due to ADC saturation.

You may adjust the gain of input potential

    - by opamp stages or bypassing them as shown in CN0510 schematic below:

or by changing ADC PGA gain and RTIA values inside device via code.
