Indeed, this does look strange, RESET/VL does not appear connected in the schematic. I don't have a board in front of me - have you looked at the board physically? Does it appear to be floating? The datasheet is pretty explicit that this is intended as a power supply to the point wher there is this note: " When using the RESET/VL pin to complete a hardware reset, all other SPI pins (SYNC, SCLK, and DIN) must be driven low.", and furthermore, the abs max ratings specify that digital signals cannot go more than 300 mV above VL, implying there may be ESD diodes from the digital pins to VL.
We'll do some investigation.

I don't have the board, but I checked the board photo on the web it looks like the 23pin is floating.
