CN0507 VNA Frequency Range

Hi,

I noticed the frequency range of CN0507 is determined by the low-pass filters (HMC1044) and the directional couplers. The hardware should work up to 6GHz, if I replace HMC1044 with another filter up to 6GHz and replace BDCN-14-342+ with another coupler up to 6GHz.

I wonder if I can set the sweep frequency beyond 3.4GHz in software. I haven’t got the board yet so I cannot try. I just found a hex file for the software and I cannot find the source code.

Could you please help me to find the source code?

Also, do you have any plan to build a low cost VNA up to 6GHz? That will be fantastic.

Thank you very much.

Regards,

Roberto

Hi Roberto,

My understanding that the CN0507 software is not for open distribution, but I'll ping a colleague and ask to see if he can give you more details on that.  He should get back to you directly.

Cheers,

Brandon

  • Hi Brandon,

    I appreciate your support.

I don’t need the source code. Just increase the sweep range would be great for me.

    Thank you very much.

    Cheers,

    Roberto

  • Hi Roberto,

Yes, it is possible to change the frequency range of the VNA by changing the bi-directional couplers and the LPFs. There are actually 2 pieces of software: (1) the firmware as a hex file, and (2) the VNA software application as an exe file. The VNA SW application would not allow you to operate the board outside the indicated operating frequency range. But you can create your own SW application. The protocol used to communicate with the firmware can be found at the end of the user guide.

Please send us your email so we can send the link to the firmware.

  • Hi Edwin,

Thank you for reply. I have sent you my email.

I saw the command "cmd_normal". Is the sweep range 51.5625 MHz to 6600 MHz for cmd_normal

    Cheers,

    Roberto

  • The operating frequency range of the VNA is from 1.7 GHz to 3.4 GHz.

  • Hi,

The CN0507 Wiki indicates the Firmware and VNA Software are available on the CN-0507 product page.  I do not see these files listed.  Can you forward?

    Regards,

    Chris

  • Hi Chris,

We'll fix the cn-0507 page, but could you PM me your email address so I could send you a link to the eval SW.

  • Hi Edwinu,

I'm not sure how to PM on EZ.  Here's my email:  chris.gorman@arrow.com
