Why are there different UVLO options offered in Isolated Gate Drivers?

  • Different power devices have certain voltages that are considered safe to operate at.

    Driving a switch above the threshold voltage, but below the optimal voltage can lead to higher losses, and/or device failure.

    By selecting a UVLO that is slightly above the minimum recommended drive voltage ensures that the gate driver either drives the device to  safe level, or doesn’t drive it at all, avoiding the problem voltage levels.

    The three UVLO2 levels were selected with common magnitudes MOSFETs and IGBTs are manufactured with.
