Q
I'm designing a battery operated product that will utilize 7 of your RS485
transceiver ADM2587E.
I want to know the power consumption for this IC when:
A) There is no traffic but the circuit is ready to receive/send.
B) DE and !RE have been disabled so that both blocks are disabled.
Is there any way to put the IC into some sort of sleep or low-power mode?
A
For the ADM2587E there is no specific way to activate a sleep/low power mode.
We made some typical measurements for both cases using one of our evaluation
boards in the lab. For both cases a) and b) we used an evaluation board
EVAL-ADM2587EEBZ Rev.A, with Vcc at 5V.
The followings are the results of lab measurements:
a) DE is low (disabled) and /RE is low (enabled). The current drawn from the
power supply is 8mA. The power consumption in this state is equal to P = VI =
(5V)*(8mA) = 40mW.
b) DE is low (disabled) and /RE is high (disabled). The current drawn from the
power supply is 7mA. The power consumption in this state is equal to P = VI =
(5V)*(7mA) = 35mW.
