 Does the receiver's fail safe feature work also if the termination (and nothing else) is connected between the A and B inputs? 
 
 A 
 In addition to the termination resistor a pull up and pull down resistor must be placed at one point on the bus for receiver fail safe to operate. If only a termination resistor is used then when the bus is in the idle state condition data may incorrectly be output from the transceiver.
