Design tool for ADP5056

Thread Summary

The user inquired about discrepancies in the compensation network values (Rc and Cc) for the ADP5056 buck converter, noting inconsistencies with the datasheet and expecting Rc to double with a doubled Cout. The support engineer recommended using LTspice models and test circuits to simulate load steps for each output, as the ADISimPower tool does not support the ADP5056.

Hi,

I am dealing with the design of the compensation network.

In section 'design example' of the datasheet, I can follow the calculation of Rc and Cc: Rc = 24.9k and Cc = 1nF.

But these vales are not coherent with the vaues proposed in figure 46 for channel 2 buck. In that case, for the same switching frequency and similar Vout, the proposed values are similar: Rc = 22.1k and Cc = 1nF.  But Cout in that case is double compared with the case in the 'design example'. So, I would expect Rc to double.

From other questions in the forum, I have seen that this inconsistency also occurs in components ADP505x. For these components, the values calculated with ADIsimPower Excel Tool are proposed as correct.

For ADP5056, there is not such tool. So, what is the right way to calculate the compensation network?

Thanks in advance,

  Miguel

  • Hi Miguel,
The legacy ADISimPower tool falls short as it stops at the ADP5054.

We have a model and test circuit in LTspice for the ADP5056.
What you can do is to model each output with a load step like this test circuit for another buck regulator - just to show how to do this.
Model the load steps individually since it might take a long time if you tried to do this for all 4 at the same time.
