Hi,
I am designing an 8-phase LT8627SP power supply for an application where redundancy is important. In addition to normal PolyPhase operation, I would like the converter to continue operating if one controller fails, and I would also like the option to disable half of the phases under light load.
Instead of the standard PolyPhase implementation with shared VC and SET pins, I am considering configuring each LT8627SP as a more independent controller:
- Common VIN, VOUT, GND, and synchronization clock
- One inductor per phase
- Independent VC compensation network for each controller
- Independent SET resistor for each controller
- Individual EN control for each phase
The goal is to allow each controller to regulate independently while sharing the same output, improving fault tolerance and enabling dynamic phase shedding.
Has anyone implemented the LT8627SP this way, or can ADI comment on whether this architecture is supported or recommended?
Specifically:
- Will the phases still share current correctly with independent VC and SET networks?
- Are there any stability concerns with multiple independent control loops regulating the same output?
- Is there a better architecture for achieving redundancy and graceful degradation with the LT8627SP?
Any guidance or reference designs would be greatly appreciated.
