LTM8063 Vin range for 3.8V Output

Category: Datasheet/Specs
Product Number: LTM8063

Hello

I need to design a power stage with 5-24V in rail to a 3.8V output and 1.6A max peak. I fount this device (LTM8063) and I want to know if there are some limitation on the input rail swing. Does the power module fit my application? Can I regulate the 3.8V starting from 5V? And with the same circuit, can I use as is with 24V?

Thanks

  • Hi Fabio,

Yes, LTM8063 is a 2A buck micro module silent switcher with 3.2V to 40V input input range and 0.8V to 15V output voltage. This means that it can accept your input voltage range between 5V to 24V and give 5V output, when you connect 45.3kOhms to FB pin as shown in  page  1 of datasheet.

    I hope this clarified things.

  • Hello,

maybe a little addition to the stated case from Tonyuche with 5V output. At least every buck regulator does need some headroom/difference between Vin and Vout. For your question with 3.8V Vout the 5V Vin,min is sufficient enough to generate a stable 3.8V value for the complete specified output current range of the LTM8063.
This diagram from the datasheet clears up things further:

So for achieving maximum output current of 2.5A you need Vin>Vout by 700mV.
    Does this help?
