Regarding the maximum capacitance of Cset when connecting LT3041 in parallel

Thread Summary

The user asked if the maximum capacitance for Cset becomes 44uF when using two LT3041s in parallel. The final answer clarifies that a 22uF capacitor can be placed at the SET pin of each LT3041, and the RSET value should be adjusted to maintain the RSET,CSET time constant for low-frequency noise performance. Each SET pin should have its own capacitor to prevent noise coupling.

The LT3041 datasheet specifies a maximum capacitance of 22uF for Cset.

For example, when using two LT3041s in parallel, assume their SET pins are shorted together and Rset and Cset are shared.

In this case, would the maximum capacitance for Cset become 44uF?

  • Hello kuro5532,

It is o.k. to put a 22uF at the SET pin of each LT3041 when the LT3041s are in parallel.

When you put LT3041s in parallel, you use a smaller RSET to program VOUT because the 100uA current references are in parallel.

If RSET is smaller, then CSET needs to increase proportionally to maintain the overall RSET,CSET time constant that determines the low frequency noise performance.

It is important to have a capacitor at each SET pin to prevent noise from coupling from the PCB traces into the SET pin.

  • What I want to know is whether the upper limit of Cset increases proportionally to the number of LT3041s in parallel.
