LT3041 Strange Output Behaviour

Category: Hardware
Product Number: LT3041

Hello all,

Recently with a new design using 5 parallel LT3041 devices, I have seen a very strange behavior during testing and validation phase.

All works great under light loads, below 2A, higher than that, if the input oscillates between some values, the output follows it, under load conditions. No load conditions, all works as expected.

The real problem is: Output 15v, fixed, input 17.5V. All good, output under 3.5A is 14.8865, however, if I go below 17.2V input, the output suddenly rises to 15.0630 V, and if I rise the input voltage let's say +0.5v, the output rises to 15.56v, literally out of specs/predefined output voltage. If I go higher let's say 18v input, I get almost 16v output.

Same behavior if I reduce the load, maintaining the input voltage, looks like when I achieve some critical input voltage, later, if the input voltage increases manually or just because lower loads, the output voltages rise dramatically above the fixed 15v value.

Do you have any idea why this is happening? I am missing something? Many years working with LT3045s and no similar problems ever encountered! Now with this new device, it is quite of a nightmare. Tried limiting each device current, no limit, increasing output capacitance, decreasing it, same on the input capacitance.. no changes.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Thanks!
