Very low output current

Question

I want to use the MAX77504 Buck SMPS device in a battery operated design that is very current efficiency sensitive. The device will be asleep most of the time drawing 1-2ma. When it awakes up it will draw around 1A of current. Will the MAX77504 work well with a sleep mode current of 1-2ma? The simulator will only allow a min load current of 300ma. Is there a better device for this application?

Hi,

Looking at the first page of the datasheet: MAX77504.pdf, it shows the plot for efficiency in SKIP mode down to 1mA of about 80%-85%. This would be a good choice for your design.

If you would like to check and make sure, we recommend that you acquire the demo board and test at light loads: MAX77504WEVKIT Evaluation Kit for the MAX77504 | Analog Devices, especially since the simulation model does not go down to 1mA.
