Already SMD, unable to burn-in program to EEPROM

Category: Hardware
Product Number: MAX16046ETN, MAX16046

We did not perform an erase operation on the EEPROM inside before SMD, which resulted in us being unable to burn a new program to this chip after assembling it into a finished product.
1.How did this situation occur?

2.Do I have to erase all the programs in the EEPROM before SMD?

3. How to handle those that have already been assembling it into a finished product before they can be used normally? Can software solve this?

  • Hi

Thank you for your inquiry. Mentioning  for assistance.

  • Hi @LukeJiang,

Thanks for providing the information. Please see my response below.

1.How did this situation occur? I understand that board board placement may require higher temperature upon component placement, are the parts installed using soldering reflow? Excessive heat may cause data loss/corruption among EEPROMs. Were the parts check with EEPROM data prior placement? Additional information are needed to further check the sources, batch code for traceability.

2.Do I have to erase all the programs in the EEPROM before SMD? This is not necessary.

    3. How to handle those that have already been assembling it into a finished product before they can be used normally? Can software solve this?

This article is helpful and good to consider dealing those part which are already installed.

    Regards,

    Chris
