LT3046

Category: Datasheet/Specs
Product Number: LT3046

Hi,

Has anyone already made the assembly with a transistor to increase the current and recommended by AD in the specification pdf ? I did it and I scrupulously respected the diagram with the exception of adding a TRIMER in place of the resistance on the PIN SET.

Does this assembly work as it is or do other components need to be added? The output voltage management via the trimer does not work.

Thank you for your help

  • adding a TRIMER in place of the resistance on the PIN SET.

What is the range of the trimer?

I think the circuit should work as is. What is the output voltage you get with the trimer set to 33K?

  • Hi Brian,

    Many thanks for your reply,

I have a probably stupid question, I want to make a 16VDC power supply under 1A, so I injected 16VDC in input, and I have 16VDC output with a resistance of 33.2K on the set pin, on several modules!

On the AD diagrams it is specified 5.5VDC in Input, to have 3.3VDC in output, is this assembly not designed for this input voltage? And maybe the resistances of 150K and 49.9K are calculated for this voltage?

Maybe the problem comes from the no?

Thank you for your help, I am not yet used to these new LDO modules.

  • Sorry you are having difficulties.  We built this circuit using the LT3042, so the circuit should work with the LT3046 as well.  Demonstration circuits are available for these LDOs that may make troubleshooting easier.  There are also LTspice example circuits - you just need to open the example circuit in LTspice, run the simulation and then modify the schematic to test your design.

  • Hi Arad,

Many thanks for your reply I really appreciate, but I have just one question in my Post below and about the LT3046.

Does the schemas on the LT3046 pdf is only for 3,3VDC with 5VDC input ? or Can it work with a voltage of 16VDC at the output ?

    Best Arad and thanks

The 33.2K resistor at pin SET was selected specifically to have 3.3V output.

If you want to have 16v output, then select the resistor value based on the formula provided in the datasheet. Did you read the datasheet?

  • Hi Brian,

Yes I did it but it doesn't works, I have the same voltage that Input.

I think that the schema in the PDF is for only 3,3VDC output with 5VDC in Input, what do you think ?

Best and thanks for your reply.

  • LTspice indicates that the circuit will work at 16VOUT.  I show the schematic and simulation results in an image below and I also uploaded my LTspice circuit.

  • Hi arad,

Many thanks for this reply, So that's what I thought the resistances of the diagram did not correspond to this Voltage, on the other hand can I put the ILIM PIN to the ground in this test?
