LT8642S Parallel Design

Category: Datasheet/Specs
Product Number: LT8642S

Hello,

I need to change an existing design that uses the LT8642S such that it will provide up to 16A in forced continuous mode. Our best option is to parallel two of these devices. Due to board constraints, the second LT8642 needs to place on the secondary side of the board, directly under the primary device.

From the datasheet, Fig. 6 "seems" to indicate that the FB circuit is placed closer to the primary LT8642.

  1. Can anyone confirm that is correct?
  2. Is there a maximum distance the second FB pin should be for optimum performance?

Similar question for the VC pin,

  1. Where is the best location for that circuit?
  2. Does LTpowerCAD provide good estimated comp values? Or not even close?

According to the datasheet, SS is shorted together for parallel. But we currently use the SS feature with external cap.

  1. How does the SS feature work in parallel mode?
  2. Can we just connect the one cap to the two SS pins?

Is there any guidance on adjusting the switch frequency or critical component values in a parallel configuration?

Thank you!
