LTC7138 output voltage behavior when preset current limit is exceeded

Category: Datasheet/Specs
Product Number: LTC7138

What happens to the output voltage of the LTC7138, or similar step-down regulators with an ISET input, when the output current draw causes the peak output current to be exceeded?  Does the output then behave as a relatively smooth constant-current source where the voltage then reduces according to the load resistance?  If the design will run in a current-limited state for an extended period of time, will this impact the input or output filter design?  In this case I am hoping to use a resistance of 100k from ISET to ground for a maximum average load current of 200mA.

I'd like to use this in a simple low-power lead-acid battery charger application, so that the 3 or 4 regulators in this design can all use the same part. (And because charger ICs are either <60V input or are too complicated for the task.)

Thanks!
