Buck and Boost Same Time

Hello,

I am looking for bi-directional dc-dc converter for 12V-48V automotive battery. I need a converter that can "buck and boost" at same time. I found "LTC3871" converter but ı am not sure can ı use "boost and buck" at same time. I checked documents but ı saw only buck or boost mode.

    Yes, the LTC3871 can be used as a bi-directional supply for a 12V-48V battery system. VLOW will supply the 12V battery and VHIGH will supply the 48V battery. The definitions of VLOW and VHIGH are below. Be sure to set the regulated VLOW and VHIGH slightly above the maximum battery voltage to ensure the LTC3871 always operates in constant current mode. To charge the 12V battery, the BUCK pin should be pulled to the V5 pin for buck operation. To charge the 48V battery, the BUCK pin should be tied to GND for boost operation. See the D/S for more details.

    Furthermore, circuit breakers on VLOW and VHIGH are recommended when batteries are connected.

    I am not clear on the buck and boost at the same time requirement. It can only operate as a buck or as a boost for any given period of time.
