About the Absolute Maximum Ratings of the ADP2164 SW Pin

Category: Datasheet/Specs
Product Number: ADP2164

Hi,

I have a question, please let me know.

The absolute maximum ratings of ADP2164 are as follows.

https://www.analog.com/media/en/technical-documentation/data-sheets/ADP2164.PDF#page=5

On the other hand, the SW pin waveform described in the data sheet has an undershoot on the negative side to around -1V.

I think it will exceed the absolute maximum ratings, but is there a problem?

Or is there a specification that says there is no problem as long as it is momentary?

https://www.analog.com/media/en/technical-documentation/data-sheets/ADP2164.PDF#page=10

For example, the ADP2384, a power supply from the same ADI company, had this description.
"SW 10ns Transient", "SW 100ns Transient"

Does ADP2164 also have such specifications?

https://www.analog.com/media/en/technical-documentation/data-sheets/ADP2384.pdf#page=5

Best Regards,

Naohisa

  • Hi,

    See my responses below.

On the other hand, the SW pin waveform described in the data sheet has an undershoot on the negative side to around -1V. I think it will exceed the absolute maximum ratings, but is there a problem?

    >>> This should be ok. The negative spike on the waveform is mainly due to bond wire and PCB trace inductances (test measurement point). Most of the negative spikes that we see gets dropped across the SW and PGND bond wires and PCB traces. You may want to try to adjust your test set-up and see that the measurement values will change as well.

Or is there a specification that says there is no problem as long as it is momentary?

For example, the ADP2384, a power supply from the same ADI company, had this description.
"SW 10ns Transient", "SW 100ns Transient"

Does ADP2164 also have such specifications?

    >>>During development, some customers would specify their requirements for negative transients like in the case for ADP2384. We don't have those for ADP2164, but this should not be a concern as for the reasons i have stated above.
