How to confiture MINOP of ADP5092?

Category: Datasheet/Specs
Product Number: ADP5092

Hi everyone.

My name is Leandro, I'm a software developer in Brazil and I'm starting with electronics design. So my question might be very basic.

Please, I would like some guidance on how to configure MINOP of ADP5092. I'm interested in using the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) function in dynamic sensing mode, that I understand would track the max input voltage using the capacitor at CBP.

The datasheet says that I can set the MINOP to a voltage lower than VMINOP_DSM (1.5V max) through a resistor to AGND. But what is the reference? I got confused because I saw three different values at TYPICAL APPLICATION CIRCUITS section of the datasheet: 150kΩ, 200kΩ and 20kΩ.

For example, lets suppose I'm using a BCSC241D4 solar cell, operating voltage = 1.5V and open circuit voltage = 2.8V, which resistor value should I use? In this case should the MINOP be set to 1.5V?

Another related question: 1.5V would be the minimum solar cell voltage that would be used. However, if I later decide to change this solar cell to a 2.6V one (like BCS2717B6). Would I need to change any resistors (dividers) in dynamic sensing mode?

If the question is confusing, let me put it another way:

- How to configure dynamic sensing mode, MPPT and MINOP pins for a 1.5V solar cell (open circuit voltage of 2.8V)?

- How to configure dynamic sensing mode, MPPT and MINOP pins for a 2.6V solar cell (open circuit voltage of 4.2V)?

(in any case, REG_OUT will be set to 3.3V)

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

only Figure 45 is a PV Cell typical application.

MINOP should be less than 1.5V to enable dynamic sensing mode, just place a 150kOhm resistor from MINOP to AGND.

About the MPPT voltage, see formula 1 from the datasheet; notice that the MPPT ratio depends on the type of harvester (e.g.  0.7 to 0.85 for PV cells) and it does not depend on Vin or Vreg_out,

if we take a look into the PV Cell typical application, we can see that 18M/(4.7M+18M) = 0.793 .
