15. Consulting a question between LT1963 and LT1963A

Category: Datasheet/Specs
Product Number: LT1963 and LT1963A
Software Version: None

Hi,

I find that the specifications in the datasheet are almost the same, What’s the main differences between LT1963 and LT1963A

Thanks!

  • Hi Jerry!

It's true that the specifications of LT1963 and LT1963A are almost the same. One of the major differences between these two LDOs is that the "A" version is AEC-Q100 qualified. This means that the latter has been rigorously tested and evaluated under a variety of stress conditions, including high temperature, humidity, vibration, and thermal cycling. This would suggest that the LT1963A can operate reliably and consistently under the most challenging conditions, which is an important consideration in automotive applications to ensure the safety, performance, and overall quality of the final product.

Another distinction between the two versions is that the "A" version has a more recent, pin-compatible design that is stable with ceramic capacitors, in addition to tantalum and electrolytic capacitors. Designers usually take the extra mile to make components stable with ceramic capacitors due to these capacitors' non-polarity, low ESR and ESL, high temperature and tolerance, and lower cost.
