MAX17262 INI model for LiSoCl2

LiSoCl2 are typically primary cells.  The ModelGauge m5 algorithm mainly is used for fuel gauging rechargable batteries.  These fuel gauges can be used with primary cells.  This app note details the considerations that should be followed for primary cells.  This app note is specifically for the MAX17201 family of  fuel gauge IC's, but the same principals apply to the MAX1726x family of fuel gauges

Hello,
I am going to use the MAX17205 with 3 LiSOCl2 primary battery cells. I read the app note and as far as I understand it should work.
But what I don't understand is whether there is the need for a specific model for the battery? If so, how should I contact Analog to create one for me?
My battery is a SAFT LSH-20 (LiSOCl2)

As outlined in the App Note on primary cells, the MAX17201/5 can be used to monitor the coulombs removed from the cells using the QH+QL registers.  The VFOCV register can provide a stable voltage reading to detect when the cell reaches near the end of life.  The RepSOC and other MGm5 output registes are not useful for primary cells and so there is no need to load a specific model.

Thanks for the fast answer. I think I must have misunderstood the part with the model. So I just need to count the coulombs coming out of the cell.

It seems to work with just reading the QH+QL registers. Is there any command to reset the QH+QL registers to 0 after replacing the battery with a new one? Otherwise I will get an overflow.

They should initialize to 0x0000 when the fuel gauge loses power when the battery is removed.

If not, you should just be able to write QH and QL registers to 0x0000.

I am also interested in using this fuel gauge for lithium thionyl chloride batteries. According to the application note, we must use the QH and QL registers for SOC monitoring. These QH and QL registers store the coulomb count.

Query:

1. Since we are using the coulomb counter to estimate SOC, do we need to keep the coulomb counter active all the time?
2. What is the current consumption when the coulomb counter is active? Is it 35 µA?

The IC needs to be in Active mode to continuously make current measurements for the best coulomb counter accuracy.  If the application has pretty stable current consumption (not very peaky loads), then the device can be put into Hibernate mode which has a lower IQ
