MAX16141A Removing Cout

Question

I'm designing a voltage protection circuit and using the MAX1641A device which will limit the voltage to my step-down converter between the range of 9V to 36V. The application is not automotive the voltage supply will be stable. 
 Can remove the C OUT capacitor and have the circuit perform correctly? 
 The evaluation board suggests a value of 330uF and at 36V this is very large compared to the rest of the circuit. 
 
 ***Note*** 
 The step-down regulator circuit after the MAX16141A has a 22uF across the input.
