Drive current capability for AduM4135

Category: Hardware

Adum4135: what is the peak output current at 45kHz. datasheet says 4A, AN-1536 7A and CREE use it at 10A (CGD1200HB2P-BM3). Of course it depends on gate capacitance and frequency but is it a limit when the driver saturates and loss in Adum will be to high?

  • Hi  ,

The peak output current is mainly limited by the output resistance or the gate resistance. Yes, the typical peak output current for the ADuM4135 is 4A - this is with 2ohm of gate resistance, but the part can provide up to 13A for 0 ohm gate resistance at 15V supply, higher supply voltage can provide higher peak output current.

In terms of limitation in the operation, you can have a look at the Power Dissipation section on page 14 of the datasheet that details the limitation in terms of gate capacitance, switching frequency, supply voltage, gate resistance, and operating ambient temperature.

    Thanks and regards,
