LTM8003

Category: Hardware
Product Number: LTM8003 internal short cirquit from reflow soldering
Software Version: none

I use the LTM8003IY#PBF in my layout. The circuit is designed for 5V output voltage. On 2 of 8 boards of the first batch, an output voltage of 0.97V is generated because the FB pins are shorted to VOUT/BIAS.

The PCB manufacturer could not find the short by x-ray. Also the temperature profile of the reflow process corresponds to the requirements of the LTM8003. Therefore I suspect that there is an internal short circuit.

Do you know this problem when reflow soldering with the LTM8003 or do you have a recommendation?

  • Hello Nino,

in the meantime our assembler has replaced the LTM8003 with a new one. We have received the desoldered LTM8003 back for inspection. Since the two desoldered LTM8003s showed the previously described short circuit between the FB signal and the Vout signal, the fault could be clearly traced back to damage in the LTM8003.

We will continue to monitor the problem. Please contact me if you have any further suggestions or if you want to have the defective components sent for inspection.

    Best regards Martin
