LTC3558 - Type III Compensation

Category: Hardware
Product Number: LTC3558

Hello,

We were using the LTC3558 earlier to generate 1.8V and 3.3V. The 3.3V is from VOUT2 with all the resistor and capacitors as specified in the data sheet.

Now, we changed the circuit to generate 5V from VOUT2 and have a different circuit for the 3.3V.

For this we just changed the 324k resistor to 562k. All else remaining same. We are using Burst mode with MODE=1.

We are finding that with very light load on VOUT2, the 5V voltage is dropping.

Does the Type III compensation Network affect the output voltage like this?

Are the Compensation R/C values for 5V same as for 3.3V. Others have asked but no definite answer has been given.

Can I get the right R/C values for 5V output.

  • Hello,

The buck-boost can only deliver about 50mA in burst mode for the 3.3V output. Depending on the input and output it can be less. It uses reduced peak current limits and does not automatically switch to PWM mode when more current is required. If it is hitting the peak current limit the part should be switched to PWM mode by setting the MODE pin to 0V.
