DC2584A-A Maximum data rate supported

Category: Datasheet/Specs
Product Number: DC2584A-A

I am planning to order a DC2584A-A eval board for evaluating PoE IEEE 802.3bt standard for a 5G modem. I wanted to know whether the RJ45 ports on the eval board supports data rates of 10 Gbps.

Thanks.

  • Hi Khrishnaprasad1,

The RJ45 ports are recommended to be connected to CAT5e or CAT6 Ethernet cable so I think that these can support data rates of 10Gbps.

  • Hello,

The layout and components of the DC2584A-A board are designed for 10/100/1000BASE-T ethernet. I have not tested a board for 10Gbps, but the first step would be finding an ethernet transformer that supports both your PoE power level and data rate. For example, 749052050 from Wurth Electronics is rated for 10G BASE-T and up to 1000mA per center tap. This part is not tested by ADI, but seems to match your request. The next step would be verifying the layout (i.e the differential data traces on the board) match the requirements for 10G BASE-T.

As Nino mentions, you would need to also make sure the cable used is appropriate for your expected cable distance, CAT5e and CAT6 may only support cable lengths of up to 45 or 55 meters respectably with 10G data rates. CAT6a should support up to 100 meters at the 10G data rate.

    Best Regards,

    Eric
