LT8390A Deadzone and Output

Category: Hardware
Product Number: LT8390A

Hello all,

In my project, LT8390A is chosen to provide 18V 10A output at 9-32V input. however ı faced some problems which are listed below.

1-) Deadzone

when input voltage is between 9V to 17 or 28V to 32, output is 18V. However when input voltage is between 17 to 28, output voltage starts from 12,72V for 17V input voltage and ends at 17,9V for 28V input voltage. I have no idea how ı can overcome this situation.

2-) LOAD

In the condition of 18V output voltage, 1A Load is connected to output. When load is activated, output voltage goes down from 18V to 1,129V approximately.

3-) SOFTSTART

LT8390A is not in softstart mode even in configuration is correct. When soft start configuration is applied, output voltage is 1,129V. Therefore, LT8390A is under keep running mode.

LTSPICE is used to simulate all condition and looks fine

  • Hi onurcan,

Have you tried verifying the design using LTpowerCAD? #2 sounds like a load regulation issue.

Please make sure to follow layout guidelines found on page 27 of the datasheet. I would also recommend getting hold of the demo board, DC2598A, as it is good to have a working reference board to easily debug unusual operation of your design.
