LT8228 as Supercapacitor charger

Hi, everybody,

I am trying to understand if the LT8228 can be used in my application:

I have an input Voltage of 12V (to say at the V1 input of the LT8228 reference circuit) and I have to charge a supercapacitor bank: 4 strips in series producing a maximum voltage of 10.8V, with a limited current of 20A.

Now the question is: Is the buck section of the LT8228 capable to work at 12V input and producing a max 10.8V@20A at the output?

Best regards.

Hi Maurizio,

The controller should be able to do this. I suggest that you read the applications information section of the datasheet to help you in designing the converter. Then simulate your design through LTSpice to have an idea on the behavior of your design.

  • Thank you Jhun,

yes I simulated the LT8228 in buck modes and seems it works correctly down 11.5V to generate the 10.8V necessary to charge the SuperCapacitors block.

    Regards.
