LTC3414

Hi,

I use the LTC3414 as shown below to supply 1V2 to a Spartan 6 FPGA

On some cards it works correctly, see below
Blue the 5V input
Red pin4 of the LTC3414
Yellow output 1V2

On another card I have this reading:

The 1V2 goes up in step?

After a warm up it doesn't work anymore, the 1V2 oscillates.
Why does this happen?

Thanks for your help

Hi Spherea,

This can be cause by many factors since your other boards are working fine. This could be a board manufacturing problem too.

One suggestion is that to try swapping ICs of the oscillating board with the working one to isolate if the IC is the issue.

Second suggestion is check the soldering of the components and see if there are cold solders or not properly soldered components.

Third is check the values of the components used on that board to see if there are discrepancies on the design.

  • HI,

I changed L3 by the ref VISHAY_IHLP2525CZERR47M01 same as the 556 evaluation card. There it seems to work? Is it a problem of current saturation in the choke? Possible.

This would be weird as you have said that the design works on other cards. Try to verify your design with LTSpice and also if you are violating any abs max.
