LTC3779

Hello, I want to know how to connect multiple LTC3779 ICs in parallel? Please guide me.

  • I have the same question. The LT press release from 2017 for this IC specifically states "Output power up to 500W can be delivered with a single device. Higher power can be achieved when multiple circuits are configured in parallel." We are looking to build a 2kW supply running off of 120VDC input. Can AD provide some information about how to run these devices in Parallel? What are the limitations? What do we need to watch out for?

    The multiphase operation is possible in theory but we don't have a reference design. Two chips can current share by connecting VFB pins together and ITH pins together. However, the LTC3779 was not designed for current sharing and current share error could be in order of  30%-40% of maximum current programmed by the SENSE pins.

    Parts like LT8708 are more suitable for parallel operation. Unfortunately we don’t have another high voltage part like the 3779 that was designed for parallel operation.
