LT8606 maximum rating versus recommended operating voltage range

Hello,

we are planning to use the LT8606 as buck converter from 24Vdc downto 3.3V. I'm a bit astonished about voltage rating specification:

  • Max rating Vin = 42Vdc
  • Operating input voltage upto 42Vdc

There is no margin at all, from my perspective this does not match. So, for line transients is there any additional data available.

Thanks for your support. Regards AN

  • As the maximum rating is 42V, there is probably no additional margin. That is the meaning of absolute maximum rating.
For line transients you have to use a TVS diode. But beware of clamp voltage at the clamp current - which depends on your supply. Or use a surge stopper- / hot-swap-circuit in front of your converter
