LTC4217 I mon output

Hello,

I am trying to use the Imon output of the LCT4217 IC

Can someone explain that the following spec in the data sheet means?

IOFF(IMON) IMON Pin Offset Current IOUT = 132mA * 0 ±7.5 µA

If it is the current from the Imon when the output is off then why does it say Iout = 132mA?

It says that the output is +/-7.5uA. Can the IC sink and source current?

7.5uA is equivalent to 150mA in the load.

Should the datasheet say than when the output is off that the Imon output could be delivering somewhere between 0 to 7.5uA out of the Imon pin which if reflected is an error of 0-150mA in the load. Could it be worse, if there was actually 150mA in the load then the Imon output could be between 0uA and 15uA?

Is there a difference in Imon's error when the device is on and off?

Please can someone advise me?

John M.

  • Hi John,

The spec called Ioff(IMON) is the IMON's offset current, and does not mean the output is 'off'.  The IMON current nominally has an offset of zero but can have an error of +/- 7.5uA.  This needs to be applied for all load conditions.  The IMON error is worse under light load conditions, which is the 132mA test condition for this spec.

For your 150mA load example, IMON typically will source 7.5uA but the offset spec tells us that IMON worst case min/max is 0uA/15uA.  At 1.5A load, IMON will source 75uA +/- 7.5uA.

When the output is off, IMON current should be zero.
