When the PIN18 NA terminal is used open
Is there a problem?
Hi,
According to the data sheet, it must be connected it to the ground if not used.

Hi yito114,
Please follow datasheet recommendation: "This pin must be connected to ground." Is there any particular reason why this is not possible? I will confirm with designer and get back if I get response that it is ok to leave open. Else, please stick with recommendation.
Hi,
Sorry for the response. The data sheet states that "This pin is not used and must be connected to ground." so this means that there is a reason for indicating that this pin should be tied to ground. I have yet to ask the designer of this product if there will be any problem with leaving the pin open.

Hi,
When there are "unused" pins, like the one in ADP8861, there are often different naming versions or conventions used. Although there are no "hard" rules when it comes to naming, make sure to always follow the data sheets recommendations and instructions.
NC (No Connect)- This is often stated when a pin has no wire bond connection to the die and you can connect it to ground or float or whatever you want with it. The best choice to be done with NC is to connect it to ground as this will provide additional heat sink ground plane on PCB.
NA-This is where a designer deliberately says that the pin MUST be connected to either float or ground because there is a wire bond connection to the die. Although NA pins does not contribute to the functionality of a certain device, It may be used as test access or other functionalities that is just not being used. To avoid malfunction, always follow the recommendations provided by the data sheet.
