How does ADM693 shift the watchdog-timeout to?

Thread Summary

The user inquired about the watchdog timeout period for the ADM693 under varying VCC and temperature conditions. The support engineer provided bench test results for three samples, indicating that the timeout period varies with VCC and temperature. However, due to the age of the part, comprehensive design data and guaranteed specifications are unavailable. The engineer suggested using the ADM8693 for a well-defined watchdog timeout range.

Dear Sir/Madam,

As for your ADM693, our customer asked the following question to us.

I could not catch the answer on your datasheet.

So please let me know your comment.

The watchdog timeout period is showed min 1sec to max 2.25sec when VCC = 5V, TA = +25C.

Q-1

If VCC is shifted to 4.5V or 5.5V, then how should we think this value shifting?

eg; when 4.5V, shift min 0.9sec to max 2.15sec ? Otherwise same value?

Q-2

If TA is shifted to 0 to 70C, then how should we thinkthis value shifting?

eg; when around temp=0C, shift min 0.9sec to max 2.15sec ? Otherwise same value?

Please let me know the trend when the above conditions.

My expected reply as following chart if you have.

Thanks Kaos

  • Hi Kaos,

This is an old part and the device characterization work done at the time isn't as comprehensive as nowadays.

we don't have enough test data to guarantee this specification over VCC and temperature range.

i would expect the timing specification limits to expand with wider temperature and VCC range, but i don't have data to quantify this.

one thing may help is figure 12, where the reset time is plotted against the temperature, the reset time and watchdog time should be derived from the same internal oscillator, thus radiometric. thus the variation in watchdog time would follow similar curve.
