Choosing the best cell balancing IC

Hello,

I am currently designing battery management with a battery charger for a battery backup system. The charger is based on LTC4015 charging IC, the system uses x4 LiFePo4 batteries with a rated 600mAh capacity.
I was wondering what is the best balancing IC that I can use for balancing the batteries while maintaining a normal operation for the LTC4015 IC?

I saw two variations for that, the LT8584 and the LTC3300.

    Hello,

    Either of those will work with the LTC4015. They just connect across the battery stack and neither will interfere with the operation of the LTC4015. It really depends on the features of the balancer that you need.

    As Zack noted, either balancer controller will work independently of the LT4015, so next you need to choose 1 controller or the other.

    The datasheets for the LTC3300 and LT8584 are a bit of tough reading if your immediate objective is to select one or the other.  I suggest you study the operational overview of the datasheets to aid in your selection.

    For the LTC3300, review datasheet, 14-18 pp. 16-20.  These page numbers are for the LTC3300-1 datasheet, Rev. C.
