LTC7871 used as a two-phase controller

Is it possible to use the LTC7871 (Six-Phase, Synchronous Bidirectional Buck or Boost Controller) with only two output phases?

    Hello,

Yes, the LTC7871 can be used as a dual phase converter. To configure the LTC7871 for a dual phase converter follow the steps below:

    1. Stuff components for phases 1 & 2 for 0° / 180° phase separation.
    2. For phases 3 – 6:
      1. Tie the SNSA+, SNSD+ & SNS- pins together with short traces and tie the combined traces to VLOW.
      2. Float the PWM outputs.
    3. Formulas to calculate the SETCUR resistor and IMON voltage shown on page 16 of the data sheet remain the same.

    Best regards,

    Mike
