Consumption current of ADD5211

Dear Sir/Madam,

Our customer is still proceeding his design by your ADD5211.

So I got the following question from custome.

He will put 200mA LED on each FBs.

As for your theta-jc 3.8C/W page-6 on your datasheet, we should include each FBs' current also his thermal design, correct? or not?

What is the case for your 3.8C/W?

Thanks Kaos

  • Thank you Jon,

I just also remembered past my sled, and I explained this to our customer already.

    Thanks Kaos

    Hi Kaos,

Yes, you can approximate the amount of power that the ADD5211 can dissipate by following the instructions in this thread:

Using of 2 ganged FBs ADD5211

It is just an approximation though, and so you should use it conservatively.   Theta JC is the thermal resistance of the package, and it includes the exposed pad.  But Theta JA is probably more relevant to the customer.  From my own experience, if you run all four of the current sinks at 200mA, with the inductive boost running, the ADD5211 will probably get too hot.  Though this could be improved with better heat sinking.
