(ADR3533)What will happen if Vout short to GND?

Hi !

I have some questions about ADR3533.

Our customer are asking me this question.

Q1)

What will happen if Vout short to GND?

Would it broke the device?

Or would it be no problem?

Q2)

If the device will broke, can you explain why the device will broke?

If the device won't broke can you explain why the device won't broke?

VIN=5V

ENABLE=5V

GND_SENSE=0V

GND_FORCE=0V

VOUT_SENSE=0V

VOUT_FORCE=0V

Best regards.

  • Hi Phil

    Can you give me some advice about this?

    Best regards

  • Hi Kawa-san,

    Here is what we know so far:

    The output transistor is somehow size in such a way that when the VDS is equals VIN, the current is some amount that will not break or damage the part immediately in terms of current density. There output track  on the other hand is also designed to handle this current so that it will not break when a short circuit event occurs. If the device is operating continuously under short circuit certainly it will become a reliability issue due to things like electro-migration and extreme heat on metal traces and it will all come down to junction temperature failure as what I already stated above. Repeated short circuit event (at worst in elevated temperature) will break the part at some point.

    Phil

  • Hi Phil

    Thank you for your answer.

    I understood what you said.

    Best regards.
