LTM4613 Input Bulk Capacitor Requirement

Hello,

I will use LTM4613 in my design. Input voltage is about 28V, output is 12V. The system need about 3A from 12V.

Because of mechanical contraints I can't use 100uF input bulk capacitor. Instead of bulk capacitor, can i use multiple 10uF ceramic or tantalium capacitors?

Thank you.

  • Hi sdt_user123,

Bulk electrolytic input capacitor is not required, this capacitor is in place on the demo board in case significantly inductive input cables were used on the input (input ringing). In either case these could be replaced with tantalum type which have sufficient RMS current rating (won't get too hot, lossy). Otherwise ceramic capacitors should be sufficient, they are most critical as they have low ESR, ESL and handle the input RMS current.

    Thanks.
