LT8620MPMSE#PBF - Power dissipation calculations

Hi All,

We are planning to use LT8620 in one our application. We want to understand the power dissipation inside the IC. Datasheet provides Rds(on) for high side and low side internal FETs, however it does not provide parameters to evaluate switching losses. In our application, since our full load current is ~1.5A, we will be in Continuous conduction mode.

Please provide the necessary parameters to calculate switching losses of internal FETs and to calculate gate drive losses so that we can evaluate how much heat sinking can be provided to this IC.

    Thanks for using LT8620 in your application.

    The monolithic buck regulator, LT8620, already considers the switching power loss, conduction power loss and thermal resistance during the design of IC. The temperature of the top-side and bottom-side internal power switches can be well below the thermal limit at the max current load when the layout of the IC follow the example in the datasheet.

    For the full load current of about 1.5A in CCM, the IC will have no issue when the proper settings are selected for the IC pins in schematic. Please refer to the copper pour design in the design data with respect to the thermal design.
