Thank you for the post. VCONTROL = 0V is the best way to turn the LT3083 off - sorry that is not highlighted in the datasheet very well. If VCONTROL is high, the LT3083 OUT voltage may try to float up. The parasitic diode that I show in the image below will clamp OUT to a diode drop above IN. The image uses the Abs. Max. Rating table and block diagram from the LT3083 datasheet and shows how the Abs. Max. Rating indicates a parasitic diode on the block diagram from OUT to IN.
