LTC3330 / LTC3331 minimum voltage

Hi !

I'm prototyping an energy harvester (solar and  vibration) for low voltage applications and I thought about the LTC3330 / LTC3331  ICs.

My question is about the minum input voltage fro the ICs to work.

1) First we have the diode bridges wiht a voltage drop of 800mV

2) Then the energy transfer from in put cap to output cap starts when then Vin voltage is > UVLO  [4V] 

Adding 1 and 2  this is  4.8V

Is it true that there will be no energy harvest until the harvest voltage > 4.8V  ??

    Hi JC,

    That's exactly right. If you end up using only one DC source (such as a solar panel), you could put that on VIN instead and bypass the diode drop. If you want to use two sources, you cannot do that, though.

    If you need a lower input voltage, we have other parts that will start up from that (LTC3106 for example), but none that inherently take multiple/AC sources. You would need your own external rectification/smoothing of the vibration source.
